Obituary

Alicia Sterling Rush,98, of Strasburg,passed into the arms of her Savior, on June 25, 2015.She had been visiting the facilities of Willow Valley Communities as she gently slept away.

Alicia was born January 15th 1917 in Binghamton, New York to Cora and Warren G Sterling. She spent her childhood with her brother Charles and her sisters, Dorothy (Quigley), Arlene (Bradley), and Thelma (Boas) where they enjoyed putting on neighborhood plays. She was married on March 19, 1934 to the late John M. Rush with whom they shared 59 years of marriage.
Alicia was recognized for her great ability in theater of Lancaster, where she appeared as one of the 1st females to act at Franklin and Marshall College Green Room productions from the early 1930s through the late 1950s.Much of her adult life was spent performing at the Fulton, directing her own theater or teaching dance and elocution to children that she loved so much.She directed over ten years of musical productions at the Fulton Theater when the Lancaster Kiwanis brought musical theater to the Fulton Opera House in 1966. She starred as Margo Channing in the last Kiwanis production "Applause" in 1973.For years she and her husband John operated the Rush School of Theater Arts in the greater Solanco area, opening her own outdoor theater, The Cricket Theater and the Historic Strasburg Dinner Theater where hundreds of local students got their first taste of theater and dance.As a charter member of the Quarryville Teenage Club, Alicia directed the Miss Solanco Pageants for 28 years.

Although she never considered herself a great cook, Alicia was Lancaster Sunday News Chef of the month, a title that she always chuckled about.Her relaxation was spent with family, friends, and her loyal pets Josie and Vickie. She was a member of Zion UCC since 1964.

Surviving are her sons John R "Rocky" Rush and his wife Ilka, Warren D "Chipper" Rush, and Robert C Rush and his wife Barbara. She had four grandchildren,Tanja Rush and her life partner Ingo Roedler in Germany,Robert C Rush II in TX and his wife Chris,MatthewP Rush and his wife Marla,and Peter B Rush and his wife Tasia and step grandchild Chikara Davis, San Antonio Texas. Her great-grandchildren are Jana, Andrew, Madison, Mason, Tristan, Caylee, and Grace and great great grandson, Sebastian.Also surviving are her sister Arlene Bradley, nephew Larry Davis, and family friend Bill Richard and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday evening July 2 at 7:00 pm at Zion UCC, Winter Hill Rd near New Providence. Family will receive guests one hour prior to the service and after the service. Rev. Teresa A. Hughes-Martin andRev. Dr James Haun will officiate at the service.
