January 28, 1919 – October 25, 2024
A. Margaret Eckman, 105, formerly of Smoketown, entered into rest at the Trillium Place Nursing Home on Friday, October 25, 2024. Born in Leacock Township, she was the daughter of the late Issac Eby and Esther (Hettie) Brackbill Hershey. She was married for over 57 years to the late George Hersch Eckman who died in 1998. Together they farmed for many years near Gap and Strasburg. After farming, she worked at Good 'N Plenty Restaurant for 10 years as a head cook. She was a member of Hershey's Mennonite Church. She was also a member of the Happy Helpers Sunday School Class and the church's sewing circle. She enjoyed quilting, reading, board games, and flower gardening. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Margaret is survived by 5 children: George H husband of Elaine Dillman Eckman of Lancaster, Helen E wife of Loren Zimmerman of Hummelstown, John K husband of Kathleen Brown Eckman of Manheim, Paul E husband of Elsie Karmun Eckman of Anchorage, AK and Elaine F wife of Kevin Stoltzfus of Leola. Margaret is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter and son-in-law: Anna Margaret and Wilmer Eby; one daughter-in-law: Julia Murvin Eckman; one granddaughter: Jan Marie Eckman; four brothers: E Ross, M Clair, LeRoy, J Musser Hershey; and four sisters: Marian Bare, Esta Eby, Dorothy Hershey, Erma Hershey. A funeral service will take place at Hershey Mennonite Church, 401 Hershey Church Road, Kinzers on Tuesday, October 29th at 11:00 AM with a viewing time from 9:30 AM until time of service. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Tandem Living's Benevolent Care program, 1520 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601 (formerly The Mennonite Home.) Margaret and her family have appreciated the wonderful staff and the care she received over the past 22 years.
