Melvin Paul Trago, age 95, of Kinzers, PA passed away at home on Friday, September 21, 2018. He was the son of George and Myrtle Myers Trago and the husband of the late Lucy Grumelli Trago, who preceded him in death in January 17, 2016. Melvin was a weapons crewman with Anti-Aircraft Artillery 3601 Automatic during WWII and stormed the Utah beach at Normandy. He was wounded by shell fragments and received the Purple Heart Medal. Other medals Melvin received were the American Theatre Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Medal, Two Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in November 1945. After the service Melvin worked for Coatesville Plate & Washer, Lukens / Bethlehem Steel Company and Salisbury Elementary School. He was an avid hunter for many years and was a founding father of the Eastern Lancaster County Rod & Gun club in 1947. He was a life member of the PJ Bair II-Post 7418 in Gap, PA and enjoyed going to White Oak Campground for the bluegrass music. He is survived by his five children: Jean L. Charles, wife of Anne Pikolas of Lewes, DE; Linda L., wife of Jonathan M. Gibson of Strasburg, PA; Melvin M., husband of Susan R. Mock Trago of Gap, PA, George W., husband of Linda L. Ross Trago of Kinzers, and Anthony D., husband of Jaryn K. Pepe Trago of Willow Street, PA. Melvin is also survived by his sister Geraldine M.wife of George J. Dippner of Gap, PA, 9 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 3 siblings: Thelma M. Spotts, Hattie P. Stoltzfus and Walter H. Trago. Funeral service will take place from the Shivery Funeral Home, 111 Elizabeth Street, Christiana, PA on Wednesday, September 26th at 11 a.m. with a viewing time from 10 a.m. until time of service. Pastor Tom Myers will be officiating. Interment will be in the Georgetown Methodist Cemetery.
