John M. Kauffman, age 88, formerly of Gap, passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Harrison Senior Living in Christiana. He was the husband of Kathryn M. Franklin Kauffman for 69 years. Born in Quarryville, he was the son of the late Frank and Lillian Long Kauffman. John was a member of the Jennersville Church of the Brethren where he helped with the men’s group and maintenance. He was a Master Sargent in the Air Force, retiring after serving for 21 years. He later worked at the former Lukens Steel in Coatesville and Trojan in Lancaster. He enjoyed fixing anything, especially repairing upholstery. He loved the outdoors, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and yard work. In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 children: Lynn M. Kauffman of Gap, Sandra K. wife of Eldon R. Stoltzfus of West Chester, 2 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, J. Michael Kauffman, 2 sisters and 3 brothers. Funeral service will take place at the Shivery Funeral Home, 111 Elizabeth Street, Christiana on Tuesday, November 6 at 11 a.m. with a viewing time from 10 a.m. until time of service. Pastors Karen Hacket and Brian Berkey will be officiating. Interment will be in the Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren.
