Martha B. Engel, age 90, formerly of Gap, passed into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at Fairmount Homes of Ephrata. She was the wife of the late Joseph E. Engel, who passed away on April 11, 2007. She was born in Chester County, daughter of the late David & Rebecca Beiler Smoker. She was a member of Blue Ball Church of the Brethren and in the past was a member of Parkesburg Mennonite Church, where she was involved with the sewing circle. She was a school bus driver for 30 years retiring from Althouse transportation in 1998. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels for 25 years. Martha enjoyed quilting and gardening. Surviving are 6 children: Dorothy M. wife of Larry Martin of Gordonville, Elvin R. husband of Nancy Yunginger Keefer Engel of Lancaster, Shirley M. wife of Paul Lantz of Lancaster, Virgil G. husband of Kimberly Lewis Engel of Narvon, Howard L. husband of Angela Mayfield Engel of Chambersburg, PA, Daryl E. husband of Kathy Long Engel of Manheim, 17 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 5 step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 4 siblings: Rebecca, Samuel and Levi Smoker and Sara Dise, 2 step sisters: Annie Kauffman and Amanda Ash.
Funeral service will take place at the Millwood Mennonite Church, 441 Amish Road, Gap, PA on Friday, April 19th at 11 a.m. There will a viewing at the church on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m and again on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of service.
