Douglas L. Walker Withers, age 74, formerly of Ephrata, passed away at Lancashire Hall of Lancaster on Thursday, January 30, 2020. He was the husband of Ina Syphard Withers with whom he celebrated 13 years of marriage with on November 25th. He was born in Norfolk, VA, son of the late Andrew G. Walker, Jr. & Charlotte Kreider Withers and adopted son of the late William A. Withers, II. He served as a Pastor and in his later years he was a substitute teacher in Lancaster County. Doug was the founding Pastor of Liberty Baptist Church of Ephrata. He loved Penn State Football, Franklin & Marshall Basketball, the Phillies, Lancaster Barn Stormers, singing, and he was instrumental in the early movement of Christian Schools. Besides his wife, Doug is survived by 2 children: Carrie E. Nash and Lee A. Withers, both of Virginia, 3 grandchildren: Courtney, Haleigh, and Tabitha, and 4 siblings: Lawrence A. Walker Withers, Patricia L. Walker Withers Kananen, William A. Withers III, and Pamela J. Withers. He was preceded in death by a sister, Andrea Walker Withers Wildman. The family would like to thank the staff of the Rosemont Unit at Lancashire Hall for the years of care they gave to Doug.
Memorial service will take place from the First Baptist Church of Pequea, 6062 Old Philadelphia Pike, Gap, PA, on Tuesday, February 4th at 11 a.m. with a time to greet the family following the service in the church fellowship hall. Pastors Patrick Audia and David Givens will be officiating. Interment will take place prior to the memorial service in the Lincoln Cemetery, 1343 Apple Street, Ephrata, PA, on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to Shivery Funeral Home, 111 Elizabeth Street, Christiana, PA 17509 to help with funeral expenses.
